College Research Experience for Undergraduates
Welcome to the College of Engineering
Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
June 4 - August 3, 2012
For Students: Pending grant approval, the College of Engineering will sponsor a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. This is a great way to find out if graduate study is right for you and an opportunity to learn more about the broad range of interdisciplinary research being conducted in the college. If that isn't reward enough, you will also be paid (stipends vary between $5,000-$6,000) for working alongside leading faculty and their graduate students full-time for nine weeks. The dates of the summer 2012 REU program are June 4th through August 3rd. Click here for an application. The deadline to apply is February 10, 2012. If you want to participate in undergraduate research at another university, click here for a complete listing of REU programs sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

For Faculty: The College also seeks faculty who are interested in mentoring undergraduate students. We ask that you click here for an application. We will use your project descriptions to alert talented students of this opportunity. The REU program here gives preference to projects that are interdisciplinary in nature. In addition, the program places a priority on students working as active members of a team, working with other students and faculty from disciplines outside their own, and gaining an appreciation of how their research projects fit into complex solutions. The advantage of faculty participation is the opportunity to mentor and influence highly motivated students in the areas of teaching and research. If that isn’t reward enough, faculty research directors will receive a stipend to cover materials and other laboratory expenses associated with each student's research.
